CLAUDIO AREZIO                                                        

Inizia ad occuparsi di liuteria nel 1979 sotto la guida dei maestri Igino Sderci e Roberto Ignesti. Costruisce violini, viole e violoncelli, moderni e barocchi, su modelli classici della scuola Cremonese del '700.
Usa i  modelli originali del maestro Carlo Bisiach, provenienti dalla bottega di Igino Sderci.  Costruisce su forma interna come nella tradizione della liuteria classica  italiana. Tutta la lavorazione è eseguita manualmente,in modo da controllare costantemente il processo costruttivo nelle varie fasi .Utilizza una vernice, formulata dai fratelli Bisiach, a base di resine ed essenze naturali la cui ricetta era contenuta in alcune lettere scritte dai fratelli Bisiach ad Igino Sderci nel corso della loro collaborazione tra il 1920 ed il 1950.
Nel 2001 ha eseguito, su incarico della Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze, la catalogazione scientifica della famosa collezione di strumenti ad arco della Corte Medici-Lorena tra cui la viola tenore e il violoncello che facevano parte del Quintetto costruito da Antonio Stradivari nel 1690 per Ferdinando de'Medici, oltre ad altri strumenti dei maggiori maestri italiani del '600-'700.
E’ membro del Comitato Scientifico che ha curato la pubblicazione del volume  “Liuteria in Toscana – I Liutai del Novecento”.
Nel  2008 ha collaborato, su incarico della Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze, alla pubblicazione del catalogo scientifico:    “La  Collezione  del Conservatorio  “Luigi Cherubini”- Gli strumenti ad Arco e gli Archetti” occupandosi dei commenti storico-stilistici e delle attribuzioni.
I suoi strumenti suonano nelle più prestigiose orchestre italiane, internazionali e formazioni da camera.
Si occupa anche di restauro e messa a punto degli strumenti.
Vive e lavora a Firenze.

He started perfectioning the art of violin making in 1979 under the guidance of M° Roberto Ignesti and M° Igino Sderci. He builds modern and baroque violins, violas and cellos in the style of the XVIII century cremonese school, and he uses the original models of M° Carlo Bisiach coming from the workshop of Igino Sderci.  An inside mould is used, as in the italian classical tradition of violin making. All the work is by hand, so as to be able to constantly check the various phases of building.
A natural essence resin varnish is then applied. This formula was found in the corrispondence between  the Bisiach  brothers and Igino Sderci during their collaboration between the 1920s and the 1950s.
Claudio Arezio has been comissioned by the" Galleria dell' Accademia of Florence" to  scientifically catalogue  the well know stringed instruments collection, once belonging to the   Medici - Lorena Court.  Among which there are the tenor viola and the cello which  were part of the Quintett built by Antonio Stradivari in 1690 for Ferdinando De' Medici and other instruments built by leading italian maestros of XVII and XVIII century.
He is member of the Scientific Committee of the book  “Violing - making in Tuscany – Violin-makers of the 20th century”.
In 2008 he collaborated to the publication of the scientific catalogue: “The Conservatorio ” Luigi Cherubini” Collection- The Stringed Instruments and Bows”  by order of the  “Galleria dell'Accademia of Florence”.
For this publication he was entrusted with the historical-stylistic comments and with the attributions.
His instuments are played in the most prestigious italian and also international orchestras as well as  in  various   chamber music ensambles.
He also restores and adjusts instruments.
He lives and works in Florence.
